I have several points that make me STRONGLY oppose this East West Highway. First of All many small towns are rooted by generations of families living on the same land if this goes through these families will lose their heritage and their history. Second of all in a tough economic time such as we are in, cuts to programs vital to our future such as schools are being made but there is adequate money in our government funding for $300,000 to do a feasibility study of something that has been talked about and not been found to be feasible for at LEAST the last 50 years, how many kids music programs in our schools could that money fund, how many art programs? I also find it interesting that no one is willing to disclose an Exact proposed route for this highway, their excuse being harrassment, but I think lack of transparency to blind side the owners of the properties involved is closer to the truth here. I find those that are backing this project to be as callous as to what Northern Maine is about as another proponent who wanted a national park in Northern Maine. I will be first in line to oppose this project as it wont Help Maine, it will simply be a quicker route for Canadians to get from the Western side of Maine to the Eastern side, and not spending their money in our state. I sincerely hope that people in the local areas that are likely to be impacted by this project speak out loud and clear to any and all that will listen. This is NOT in the best interest in keeping Northern Maine a pristine wilderness. Whole towns will be gone if this goes through, and for My family that means losing something more valuable than the almighty dollar, it means losing the place I call home. The place that 3 generations of my family have lived and it means taking the Joy of raising my small children in such a beautiful place away with out my permission!

In reading the Public-Private statute, it seems to me that the requirement of Paragraph 4-Standards of Review, sub paragraph L. "The proposal and transportation facility are in the best interest of ther public." and the Confidentiality Clause in Paragraph 10 are at complete odds. How is MDOT to determine if the proposal is in "the best interest of the public" if they ar never allow the public to see and questions aspects of the proposal before it is approved/disapproved ???

Thanks for writing Herb. There are many ways to jump in on the campaign if you are willing to help. We will be doing presentations to selectboards and other groups across the State, as well as taking these kinds of opportunities in St. Stephen to voice our opposition. We have developed regional working groups to coordinate the work. Even if you don't live in one of the towns along the route, there's plenty to do! Thanks for checking out the website and let me know if you want to jump in. ~Chris

Glad to see people are working to stop the east-west highway toll road. It is not needed and won't serve the people of Maine. I hope you get good support and keep the pressure on our elected representatives. Herb

Chris Buchanan 's Op-Ed re the East-West Highway - today's BDN - states" The highway would be a supercorridor for natural gas and what else?

The answer to that is - the Passamaquoddy Water Bottling Plant being built in Princeton, Me. - and I'll make a bet that Nestles will be shipping those bottles out on the privately owned East-West Highway - should we allow it to happen.

Also - my bet is that the same proposed E-W Highway is why LePage wants to dismantle LURC!
