On July 25th, Gov. Jerry Brown announced (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-water-tunnel-20120726,0,5647580.story ) plans to build two large 37-mile underground tunnels to divert Sacramento River water around the Delta to San Joaquin Valley agriculture and southern municipalities. This massive public works project, http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2012/08/07/18719087.php proposed under the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP), is estimated to cost between $21 and $47 billion or more.
Restore the Delta (http://www.restorethedelta.org ) is challenging the decision to proceed with a project the state can’t afford that is the death-knell for the Delta ecosystems, communities, and economy.
