Tap water is generally just as pure and tasty as anything that comes out of a bottle. Bottled water is no bargain. It costs 240 to 10,000 times more than tap water, according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, February 28, 2007, entitled “The Real Cost of Bottled Water.”
Transporting bottled water via boat, truck, and train burns huge amounts of fossil fuel. Billions of plastic water bottles end up in landfills. They take 1,000 years to degrade, thus bottled water may be harmful to our future water supply.
Nestle Water NA’s Ice Mountain brand of bottled water in Framingham, MA has been taken to task for selling Framingham’s own tap water, filtering and bottling for resale. In essence, anyone from Framingham or surrounding communities who purchase Ice Mountain is buying back their own water.
PEOPLE OF SHAPLEIGH! We’re still in danger of having our water taken away. Keep your eyes and ears open. Speak to your neighbors. Know what is going on in your own Town Hall. Know how your elected officials keep the quality of life you desire in your community.
Let’s not have to buy back our water!
