Prineville Reservoir’s last boat ramp closes due to low water

August 18, 2015

August Beginning this Friday, Aug. 21, the last developed boat ramp on Prineville Reservoir in central Oregon will be closed for the year to boat launching with trailers.

The ramp has become unsafe to launch boats because the water level has receded to the end of the ramp. The low water level on the reservoir prompted early closure of two other developed boat ramps mid-summer this year.

The reservoir has adequate water for other recreational watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and small portable motorized boats. These can still be launched manually from any accessible, walk-in beach. This is still an option for those looking to get out and enjoy the reservoir throughout the rest of the summer.

The main state park campground and day use area will remain open year round, while the Jasper Point campground will close Sept. 30. For information, call the park office between 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 541-447-4363.

Prineville Reservoir State Park is located about 20 miles southeast of Prineville in Crook County.
